Emmanuel ” Manny” Dapigram Pacquiao known as “Pacman”, Reigning World Boxing Council (WBC ) Champion and International super featherweight champion rocks Boracay April 11 during the World Earth Day celebration. A Walkaton in the long beach together with former Gov. Chavit Singson,made hundreds of Filipino and Foreign boxing enthusiast got the chance to congratulate the boxing legend.
Born December 17, 1978 in Kibawe, Bukidnon, Mindanao Philippines , “Pacman” tagged as the Destroyer is the former World Champion IBF Super Bantamweight Division, WBC Flyweight, currently holds the record of 44 wins ,3 losses,2 draws and 35 wins by way of knockouts. He is the first Asean Boxing Champion listed in the Guinness book of World Records.
Pacman acknowledge and thank the support of all Filipinos in a Press Conference held at One MGM ,Manggayad,Boracay last April 12. After the victorious fight in Las Vegas he was busy attending to his collegiate studies at Notre Dame University- General Santos City. Asked about his real motive about joining politics he disclosed that he just wanted to help more starving Filipinos from poverty. His lost in the political arena doesn’t stop him from helping more people alleviate their lives. His participation in the World Earth day Celebration proved his support to Non -Governmental Organizations (NGO) whose untiring efforts and programs has uplifts most Filipinos in the remote areas. He doesn’t mind joining NGO campaigns for as long as it would help.
For him, loosing last election is a learning experience.” Maybe it’s not yet my time to win, maybe if I won I might have bigger problems.” Asked about the possible re-matched with Marquez if he was scared about the fight ,Pacman said,”He fear no one, it all depends if they can come up with an agreement”. As a boxer , its up to the manager to come up with a fight . For him there’s only one thing he is sure of ,” it will not take him four years to decide for a re-match.” Pacman said,’If you are a true champion you should know how to accept defeat. Last Championship re-matched Marquez kept crying so Pacman advised Marquez to stop crying because he said, ” this is boxing sometimes you win, sometimes you loose.” His next fight is June 28 with Diaz. He is the only boxer who doesn’t need stair lifts.
To his avid followers he advised that, “prioritize your studies , always be patient and pray hard. Even if you have talents and skills but if God is not in your life, you will be at lost.No direction and always afraid to face consequences.” True enough, Pacman’s deep trust in God, made him an eternal winner to the hearts of the pious Filipinos. In every fight he said, “If not with God , I am not here.” He is the only world champion who proudly display his deep faith in God by making the sign of the cross , wearing and kissing the rosary before entering the boxing ring. For him, God is his only amulet.His source of power and strength.He said, ” he fear no one because he knew God is with him in his battle.”
Self-Disciplined , focused, sacrificed were the core values Pacman did that helped him overcome his vices like cockfighting, drinking and women. He said, ” if you have self- discipline you can overcome peer pressure of these disatrous vices. Life is like a fight we should be prepared 100% , so stop vices and give your best, fight in every struggle. Nothing comes easy, everything needs patience and sacrifice. So always be prepared to give your best. Always be ready and take one step at a time.”
